these broken women

these broken women

are all that we know

nine months and some years

they've given us a home

or at least they're supposed to

these broken women

use their voices as a wall

calloused hands try to soothe

the pains they've caused

it's the best they can do

these broken women

have never known being frail

well at least on the outside

aching bones tell another tale

prayers at dawn to make it through

these broken women

our mothers, daughters, sisters

don't mean to project

inner hurt, faults and failures

they only hope to guide you

these broken women

when all is said and done

and their bodies find rest

within the dirt, beneath the sun

may you find comfort too
