beyond the novelty of another year
Happy New Year! 🎉
I’m not sure when it stops being socially acceptable to greet people in that way, but there’s something so pivotal about a new year.
A new number and another January. Some of us even feel like new people—our old selves have been shrugged off, nowhere to be found once the clock resets. Fireworks erupt in celebration of this transformation, never mind how distant or realistically speaking, nonexistent.
Still, we make resolutions, list our goals and confidently boast—new year, new me!
I’m not at all a pessimist when it comes to the new year. In fact, I love to indulge in making vision boards and sharing my resolutions. It’s hard to resist this novelty for a reason, and making that fresh start at 12 a.m. can motivate us to do some pretty great things!
As a big picture person, however, I also try to consider the value and possibilities in this year as a whole—not only in the first few days or months.
Lasting change isn’t instantaneous, but instead, a culmination of our everyday decisions and priorities.
So as the novelty of 2023 begins to wear off, I hope that your desire to reach your goals helps you maintain your discipline.
Here’s to another year!
